Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland that is most often caused by bacteria, which travel up the urethra and into the prostate. If Prostatitis becomes chronic, inflammation can occur without bacterial infection. The pain then is caused by excess tension in the muscles of the pelvic floor or congestion of the prostate, and is often brought on by emotional stress.

Herbs with potent antimicrobial and diuretic properties help eliminate bacteria in the prostate gland.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and spicy foods, which can irritate the genito-urinary tract, and fatty foods and refined carbohydrates, which can inhibit immune function.

Essential oils may be used as baths (hot baths can improve circulation to the genital area and help relax pelvic muscles) or massage to the abdomen and lower back to help relieve Prostatitis. Use eucalyptus or sandalwood essential oils.
